PRO-ECOLOGICAL ACTIONS

ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY ACTIONS AND IMPROVING WORK CONDITIONS


DUST-PROOF AND SOUND-PROOF HOUSING OF THE VIBRATION GRATE FOR KNOCKING OUT CASTINGS IN FOUNDRY NO. 1.

  • The dust-proof and sound-proof housing of the vibration grate for knocking out castings, built of two sliding chambers.
  • The housing of the grate has been fitted with an extractor and a dusting system.
  • Side walls are covered with sound-absorbing material.

 


THE EFFECTS:

  • Major improvement of the conditions of work at the castings knocking out workstation and in the vicinity,
  • Reduction of the concentration of particulates in total and respiratory-irritating particulates at the castings knocking out workstation, down to the permitted values,
  • Reduction of the level of noise at the castings knocking out workstation, down to the permitted values,


SELF-HARDENING SANDS REGENERATION WORKSTATION IN FOUNDRY NO. 1

DESIGNATION:

  • Reclaiming the sand from used self-hardening mould and core sands, prepared on the basis of non-organic binder (sand with liquid glass) and organic binder (sands with alkaline resins),
  • The regeneration process is carried out using the dry, mechanical-vibrations method

The production line was awarded in the Competition of the President of the Association of Polish Foundry Engineers: “Advanced founding technology as the basis for industry development.”



BENEFITS OF THE PROCESS OF REGENERATION OF USED SELF-HARDENING SANDS:

  • Reduction of the disposal of used self-hardening sands to waste landfill and lowering the fees for the utilisation of the natural environment,
  • Possibilities of simultaneous regeneration of used mould sands with non-organic binder (liquid glass) and organic binder (sands with alkaline resins),
  • Using at least 50% of reclaim for preparation of sands, thus reducing the cost of purchase, transport and drying the fresh sand,
  • Lowering the costs of production of the sand by approx. 30% as compared to sand prepared with fresh sand,
  • Raising the technological and engineering level of the foundry.


ARC FURNACEs DEDUSTING INSTALLATION IN THE FOUNDRY NO. 1 AND THEIR SEALING

  • Arc furnaces have been sealed through the use of “DOG-house” type housings,
  • The dusting installation has been fitted with high-performance filters, with effectiveness exceeding 99


THE EFFECTS:

  • Compliance with the environmental protection standards – the concentration of dusts in the gases emitted to the atmosphere does not exceed 3mg/m3 (the permitted value is 10mg/m3),
  • Reduction of dust emission from arc furnaces from 20 t/year to approx. 1.3 t/year,
  • As a result of reduction of the global emission of dusts for the entire company, we were able to extend the operational times of furnaces, which let us increase production output and the income on sales of castings, whilst complying with environmental protection standards,
  • Through sealing the furnaces, the conditions of work near the furnaces improved, in terms of reduction of dust pollution and reduction of noise, to the permitted values.


WEINMANN SMD 90 DRYING CAB FOR VARNISH IN FOUNDRY NO. 2

DESIGNATION:

  • Painting castings and casting models,
  • Drying castings and casting models after painting

THE EFFECTS:

  • Improving working conditions during painting the castings and casting models,
  • Improving the quality of varnish coat,
  • Speeding up the process of drying the varnish coat,
  • Protection of natural environment through trapping the varnish dust in the set of filters and the reduction of concentration of volatile substances.


OTHER PROJECTS WHICH ARE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY AND WHICH IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Constructing the exhaust and in-take installation in foundry no. 1, at the castings moulding workstations in the main bay and pouring liquid metal into moulds, which resulted in improving the conditions of work.
  • Excluding from exploitation and liquidation of cupolas, which resulted in dust and CO and SO2 emission to the atmosphere and work conditions were improved.
  • Introduction of ironmaking in an arc furnace, contributing to the reduction of SO2 emission.
  • Cladding chambers of annealing furnaces with heat resisting fibre modules and installing the apparatus for automatic temperature control, which resulted in reduction of gas intake and reduction of CO and NO2 emitted to atmosphere.
  • Thorough modernisation of office premises, sanitary and social premises, improving dramatically the working and social conditions.
